POEM
THE BARE MINIMUM
BY DR JERNAIL SINGH ANAND
You need payrents
Who pay the rent for your stay
In this world;
Food to sustain in life
And happiness to enjoy it all.
But happiness eludes men
For it dwells not outside.
It lies in the joy of giving
Sharing
Loving yourself and your world.
Birth and food keep us alive
But that is half the job
Look at nature
Even a dog enjoys
His sleep.
Men who bark like dogs
And bite like snakes
And gather fortunes
Live not a moment extra
And die paupers.
Life is not too long
Nor meant to create misery.
Thanklessness
Is an unholy crime.
Disturbs man's reason and rhyme.
Gods bless the human spirit
Shepherd it back
To the Golden Square.
Where all is fair
And it is light everywhere.
