“What's your name? What excites you and makes your heart beat? Tell me your story. I want to hear your voice, and I want to know your convictions. No matter who you are, where you're from, your skin color, your identity, just speak yourself. Find your name and find your voice by speaking yourself." These were the words spoken by BTS at the launch of UN's Youth 2030 Strategy, which aims towards improving the world for today's youth and empowering them. For those of you who are wondering what BTS is (no, it does not stand for "Behind The Scenes"), here's what you need to know.
BTS, aka Bangtan Sonyeondan and Beyond The Scene, is a Korean boy band, under Big Hit Entertainment, which debuted in 2013. The group consists of seven members namely RM (Kim Nam-joon), Jin (Kim Seok-jin), Suga (Min Yoon-gi), J-Hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji-min), V (Kim Tae-hyung), and Jungkook (Jeon Jung-kook). Initially the group debuted with a hip-hop style but with time they extended their field of music and are one of the most versatile groups one can find today. Unlike other stereotypical groups that one has seen over the years, BTS is a full package of music, rap, and dance. Instead of having songs written and produced solely by others, the members actively participate in the process. Group Leader RM has produced over 80 songs and Suga has been known to be producing songs for other artists and getting recognition for it. They are exceptionally talented but what sets them apart from all the other groups around the world? How did they get on to become one of the biggest groups in the world? They are an all Korean-speaking and Korean-singing group, so what made them so much popular in the west and all across the world? Well, the answer to this is quite simple but it's rare to be found in today's industry. In an industry where fans are just seen as a means to make money, BTS has always tried to connect with their fans on a human level. The BTS Fandom is known as A.R.M.Y (Adorable Representatives M.C. of Youth). They are currently known as the most powerful fandom in the world. It's very appropriate to call them so because the A.R.M.Y Power is no joke. They have been with the group through thick and thin and always supported them. A group which came from a small company and was almost disbanded due to insufficient financing, went on to break giant records and won over hundreds of awards including Billboard Music Award. They have been a favorite guest on all the big talk shows such as The Ellen Show and were also invited at the Grammys.
